Consciousness is not affected. Dementia may be accompanied by changes in emotional control, social behavior, or motivation.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It results from diseases or injuries affecting the brain, such as Alzheimer\u2019s or stroke. Dementia significantly impacts patients, caregivers, and families and often faces stigma and lack of awareness.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><b>Symptoms<\/b><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Dementia affects each person differently. Symptoms are divided into three stages:<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Early stage:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> gradual onset, easily overlooked<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Forgetfulness<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Losing track of time<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Getting lost in familiar places<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>Middle stage:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> clearer and more restrictive symptoms<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Forgetting recent events and names<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Getting lost at home<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Difficulty communicating<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Needing help with personal care<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Behavior changes, such as wandering or repeated questions<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>Late stage:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> near total dependence<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Disorientation to time and place<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Difficulty recognizing relatives and friends<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Increased need for assisted self-care<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Difficulty walking<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Behavior changes, including aggression<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3><b>Dementia Rates<\/b><\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Around 50 million people worldwide have dementia<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Nearly 60% live in low- and middle-income countries<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Nearly 10 million new cases each year<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Estimated prevalence in people aged \u226560: 5\u20138%<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3><b>Treatment and Care<\/b><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">There is no cure for dementia.
