Joanna

Joanna Intara is a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist and Psychotherapist, relationship cyclebreaker, intimacy alchemist, and trauma expert with over three decades of experience helping couples move from disconnection into safety, intimacy, and lasting love. She has spent her life sitting in the fire with people, helping them uncover the hidden body contracts that quietly drive their relationships and bringing them back into the kind of repair that makes love possible again. Her devotion is to the threshold, that place where the body finally releases what it could not before, and love begins to land.

Her work goes far beneath the surface. Most of the struggles couples face are not happening in their minds but in the deeper places where the body was coded and trapped by overwhelming events. Joanna helps people regulate, resource, and liberate those imprints so they can cross into a new now. This is not theory. It is lived practice, felt at the intersection of the nervous system and the soul level. When safety is restored here, intimacy stops being dangerous and becomes real.

Joanna has created and led many programs to support this transformation, including The Regulated and Resourced Relationship Experience, The Couples Trauma Threshold, The Marriage & Relationship Blueprint, The Intimacy Pearl Portal, and The Intimacy Alchemy Accelerator. She is also newly launching The Soulmate Studio, a monthly membership school where couples and those in relationship can practice, rather than only intellectualize, what it truly takes to create love that is embodied, connected, fun, and effective. These containers have supported couples through near-divorce, betrayal, shutdown, and silence, helping them find not just survival, but the possibility of joy, connection, and intimacy that lasts.

Her path began in the Bay Area, where she worked with students, families, and adults living with immense weight such as substance abuse, depression, intimacy struggles, HIV, and trauma. She trained and served in schools, counseling centers, and community programs, facilitated groups for the severely ill, mentored women in spiritual retreat, guided meditation, and sat in the raw honesty of grief and resilience. Those years forged her understanding that safety is not optional in love. It is oxygen.

Joanna earned her license after completing a rigorous written and oral examination process and more than 3,000 hours of face-to-face client work at licensure alone. Today she has accumulated over 37,000 hours of direct client contact. She holds a Master of Arts in Integral Counseling Psychology from the California Institute of Integral Studies and a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from San Francisco State University. She has advanced training in Sensorimotor Psychotherapy, EMDR Trauma Therapy, Imago Therapy, and countless other modalities that support deep repair at the nervous system and soul level. She has also been a member of the California Association of Marriage and Family Therapists and the Northern California Emotionally Focused Therapy for Couples.

Joanna brings all of this, the fire, the tenderness, the training, and the lived devotion, into every retreat, immersion, and mentorship. Her work is not just about saving relationships. It is about liberating love itself.
